10 Great Resources for Breast Cancer Aw...

Ladies, not only are we entitled to being fabulous but also to leading healthy and responsible lives.  October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and hopefully you’ve gotten the chance to learn and be educated about the dangers of breast cancer and the importance of being aware.  Listed below are several resources that will help explain everything from what breast cancer is to symptoms and treatment and places to go for support. 

  1. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month – This site is dedicated to National Breast Cancer Awareness month and a great resource for finding news updates, ways to stay informed and information about the disease.
  2. American Cancer Society - What is Breast Cancer?  Find out what breast cancer actually is and more resources about this terrible disease. 
  3. Cancer.Org – This resource has shocking breast cancer facts and figures for 2009/2010 (bottom of page) that will definitely make you want to get checked.  Some important facts: 1 in 4 cancers diagnosed in women is breast cancer. In 2009 it is estimated that there will be 192,370 diagnosed cases of invasive breast cancer. (See table 2, page 4).
  1. BreastCancer.Org – This site is helpful in understanding breast cancer symptoms and diagnoses.  Learning about symptoms helps increase your awareness of breast cancer and how to deal.
  1. National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. – Here is a very informative site that shows you how to perform a breast cancer self-exam.  Please note that although you perform a self-exam, you still need to be checked by a licensed doctor.
  1. BreastCancer.Org – Understanding treatment and side effects may be confusing, so read up on the facts here.
  1. Mayo Clinic - The Mayo Clinic has a video on what to expect during a mammogram and outlines what a mammogram is. 
  1. Susan G. Komen for the Cure – This not for profit organization heads up the Race for the Cure series.  Find a race near you and sign up!  This site also provides great resources in bringing awareness to the breast cancer battle.  Donate to the ongoing research and support to finding a cure.
  1. The Amazos Society – A site dedicated to honoring those battling breast cancer and seeing women battling breast cancer recover fully...physically, mentally and emotionally.  Your support means more to her recovery than you’ll ever know.
  1. MyBreastCancerNetwork.Com – 10 Common Breast Cancer Myths Debunked.  Find out that breast cancer is not a death sentence and how important it is to have a mammogram before age 50.
