Unless you have been living in a hole for the last six months, you are at least acutely aware that studs are everywhere. Ok, so I have been a fan of studs since like 1997 when I started making semi-regular appearances at rock concerts like the Deftones, Third Eye Blind, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Marilyn Manson (yes, Marilyn Manson). Truth be told, I was a little bummed when they started making a more regular appearance on everything from handbags to belts to shoes to jeans. I felt like the world had discovered my favorite go-to fashion item. 

If you don't love studs as much as I do, you might be feeling the oversaturation of them. But if you love them and are dying to try out the trend, I've got a suggestion to try them out whilst remaining totally original and not spending a fortune, natch! Here it is kids:

1) Go to StudsandSpikes.com and purchase your own studs and a Dart Awl. Studs come in all shapes and sizes. My personal favorites are the Pyramid 5/8 ones in Black. The Dart Awl is the tool used for puncturing your favorite clothes and accessories for placement of the studs. 

2) Stud away. Kind of like the old-school Bedazzler's we had in our youth. Hello 80's! The options are endless. Grab an old pair of jeans and stud the edges of the front pockets. That old pair of Converse Allstars that have been sitting in your closet for a few years now or the pair of black Uggs you stopped wearing three years ago? Perfect for studs! Don't have anything stud-worthy? Head over to Forever 21 and pick up a cheap clutch and stud it like crazy. Intermix is selling a to-die-for Tylie Malibu clutch right now for $325. With a little patience, you can have an identical handmade one for a fraction of the price! You can stud hair clips, leather bracelets, t-shirts, virtually anything. Just steer clear of panties and you are good to go! 

After you are done creating your own little fashion masterpiece, might I suggest googling Marilyn Manson and finding out if he is playing at a venue near you.... I kid!
