Instructions for Life

A friend sent this to me a long time ago when I felt like I was at a crossroads in my life. I've always kept it with me because it really does give some great instructions for life. Hope some of you will like it too.
1. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.
2. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.
3. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.
4. When you say, "I love you," mean it.
5. When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.
6. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.
7. Believe in love at first sight.
8. Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't have much.
9. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.
10. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.
11. Don't judge people by their relatives.
12. Talk slowly but think quickly.
13. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"
14. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
15. Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.
16. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
17. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions.
18. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
19. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
20. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.
22. Spend some time alone.
23. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
24. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
25. Read more books and watch less TV.
26. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll get to enjoy it a second time.
27. Trust in God but lock your car.
28. A loving atmosphere in your home is so important. Do all you can to create a tranquil harmonious home.
29. In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current
situation. Don't bring up the past.
30. Read between the lines.
31. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
32. Be gentle with the earth.
33. Pray. There's immeasurable power in it.
34. Never interrupt when you are being flattered.
35. Mind your own business.
36. Don't trust a man/woman who doesn't close his/her eyes when you kiss.
37. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
38. If you make a lot of money, put it to use helping others while you are living. That is wealth's greatest satisfaction.
39. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a stroke of luck.
40. Learn the rules then break some.
41. Remember that the best relationship is one where your love for each other is greater than your need for each other.
42. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
43. Remember that your character is your destiny.

love this! great words of wisdom
I have all of these life's lessons. I was also given a copy of these lessons a few years back and have tried to live accordingly. I have added a few of my own...however. 1. Less is more. 2. Never volunteer information but when asked a direct question, never lie. 3. Do unto others... 4. Don't judge anyone until you've walked 5 miles in thier shoes. 5. Don't take it personal, it's not always about you. 6. If you're going to make rules...you have to live by them. 7. Never make someone glad that they dumped you. Always make them think they are missing out on something Fabulous!
Some special words to live by, here's a few I like...
1. get a good education. they can take your house and car, but your education stays with you.
2. You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time.
3. If Jesus were alive today, He'd be a democrat, and I want to live like Jesus did...(true when it comes to medical reform, he healed the blind and deaf! also, he fed a few loaves of fish to the masses!)
I love reading ppl's different views though, fascinating how different we each are.
4. Never goto bed angry at your partner. (I just won't mess with this one)
5. Always listen to your elders. More than likely they already got their frequent flyer miles for walking in your shoes many times over what you can count.
6. Just because you rationalize your situation, doesn't make it right.
7. Rules were made to be broken. expecially your own.
8. Don't ever go back to an ex. Don't even think of it!
9. Don't burn your bridges. (However, my husband and I both don't agree on this one, there are just people in life where it is better to burn the bridge, and rebuild with someone else!)
10. charity starts at home (then, take off for the rest of the world!)
11. Birds of a feather, flock together...
12. You are what you eat...
13. Love your Neighbor as yourself
14. Out of your paycheck, PAY YOURSELF FIRST. I can't remember how many times my grandmother told me this, and I haven't forgotten.
15. Know someone for a year before getting married.
16. Well, my father once told me before I got married, to live with the guy first, for a year, and then make my decision. Honestly, I didn't like this advice, because it meant I had lived with 5 diffferent guys before I tied the knot, and I can't get over feeling a bit like a slut even though I have been married for 7 years. (LOL) And, even in my marriage now, there are no guarantees til death do us part.
I love them
This is my view on life, because I am me and that is all I can ever be.
love this!!!!
some rules i live by
1. nothings ever certain
2. there is no god, so don't rely on him
3. life is short so dont spend your time crying
Okay, why does it say not to trust anyone who doesn't close their eyes when you kiss? That seems... silly. My boyfriend only closes his eyes half the time, and it's not like he's looking to see who's watching--we're usually alone when we kiss.
Anyway, some rules I live by:
1) If someone doesn't like you for no apparent reason, forget them.
2) Be considerate to everyone, unless they do you or a friend wrong.
3) Be confident that you are prepared for what you are doing in the near future.
4) Don't let yourself care whether people think you're odd; at least it's attention.
5) Be who you are without any shame, but also with no pride.
I love this ♥
