I asked awhile back if GGT readers would like to know about new music.  A few readers said yes.  Sadly I've been suffering under a pile of midterm projects so I haven't been living up to my promise.  Here's a recent review I posted on my person website. I still love the musician and since the posting was able to see her perform.  char2d2 live was quite good. There's a few kinks to be worked out especially when performing an album with only drums and a guitar.  But I know she's only going to get better live.  You should check her out now!  Plus she's really nice in person.  Enjoy!

A few week's ago, Charla McCutcheon, AKA: Char2D2 released her debut record, Small Vampires.  Charla, herself,  is no new-comer to the music scene.  She previously played with the Vancouver Indy pop band, Bella.   After taking some time and traveling Paris, Charla returned with new songs which found their way to Tegan Quin (Tegan and Sara) who insisted on producing char2d2's debut album.

Cut to me one week ago, being FINALLY able to purchase Small Vampires and take a listen.  At first I was a bit hesitant.  The opening track, Take And Send begins with a simple guitar.  My first inclinations were to groan thinking, "Oh great.  Another girl with a guitar."  Luckily my brain kicked in and I kept listening.  As the track progresses a great beat develops and you become caught up in the song.  Some Will Have To Go is definitely more of a pop track in which you can really feel Quin's influence within the catchy beat and the song's progression.    I happen to love song lyrics which invent new ways for a person to ask another to be with them or stay or be close etc.  You Are a Small Vampire, I believe, successfully does this especially with the line, "Can I be the one that you wake up at 6am?"
