I love bourbon. I think it is super yummy. But this wasn’t always the case. A few years ago, the company I was interning for threw a huge holiday party. One of their clients was a bourbon company and they set up a tasting. Oh man, did that stuff gross me out. Fast-forward a few years (and a few seasons of seeing how cool Don Draper looked) and I tried again. And this time, the love affair stuck around.
If you are new to the world of bourbon, or are not a huge fan of its bite, this cocktail just may be a gateway for you to start your own affair. (I share!) When combined with hard apple cider and a little bit of maple syrup, how can it be bad?!?
(And if you must resist bourbon’s siren call, rum is also a great option.)

Kentucky Apple Cocktail
Ingredients
1 ounce bourbon whiskey
1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
4 ounces hard apple cider
Fresh apple slice
Directions
Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Add bourbon and maple syrup. You can also add a dash of bitters if you’d like. Top with hard apple cider; stir gently. Garnish with a fresh apple slice. (Makes one drink.)
