Hoarding hair products is in my DNA. I'll try just about anything to treat, style and maintain my thick hair. However, I've discovered through trial-and-error that sometimes the best solutions arise when you think beyond the label. And this is a lesson even hair heavyweight Ken Paves can agree with.
Paves, whose celebrity clients include Jessica Simpson, Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria and Megan Fox, shares four not-so-glamorous tricks with Stylelist to help you get your best hair ever.
#1: Dandruff
Got embarrassing flakes messing up your fabulous LBD? It happens to the best of us. But there’s no need to go buy a special shampoo. Simply crush up some ibuprofen and mix it into your normal shampoo. Bye bye flakes!
#2: Limp Locks
Love the voluminous look but are stuck with thin, flat tresses? Not anymore. Take laundry starch (yes, laundry starch!) and spray it on dry roots. Then blow dry it. Still not enough volume? Use a toothbrush to tease your roots.
#3: Frizzy Hair
Picture this: You style your hair at home and it’s perfect. You step outside and go through your morning…and by lunch you’re a frizzed out mess. Emergency no more. Take your lip balm, put a little on your fingers, and rub through the frizz. Genius!
#4: Crazy Curls
Every time you finish a bottle of wine, save the cork. Why? You can use them to create a gorgeous curly look. Wrap your towel-dried hair around the corks and secure with bobby pins. Then either blow dry or let air dry. It’s way more fun to spend money on wine then on a curling set, right?
