There’s more to it than just waking up on the right or wrong side of the bed. Feeling healthy and beautiful begins with your morning routine. Below we’ve compiled 5 of the worst missteps that can hinder your appearance for the rest of the day.
1. Skipping SPF
Not many of us want to imagine ourselves much older, but think about this. Your skin will age even faster if you don’t take care of it. A major factor in prematurely-aged skin is sun damage. So, slather on some sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 before you leave your house in the morning. Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day. Bare Minerals even has a mineral powder sunscreen so you can avoid applying lotion on top of your makeup.
2. Applying Pink or Purple Eye shadow
Avoid any shadows with pink undertones because they will bring out any redness in your eyes leaving you looking more tired than you already are. Taupe shadows are great for all eye colors and navy eyeliner will make the whites of your eyes pop.
3. Overdoing the Coffee
Sure, one cup a day is okay, but too much coffee leads to dehydration, causing dry and uneven skin tone. If you need a caffeine boost after the first cup, enjoy some green tea instead. Green tea has its own slew of wonderful health benefits so it’s a win-win situation for your body and health.
4. Not Hydrating
You should start every morning with a tall glass of water. There is no simpler way to boost the overall appearance of your skin. Better yet, add some fresh lemon juice to water to feel more revitalized and for a natural detox. Lauren Conrad boasts about the benefits of lemon water on her blog, too.
5. Skipping Breakfast – Or Having the Wrong One
Eating a healthy breakfast will keep you more focused and energized throughout the day. Skipping this meal ruins your metabolism and supplies no nutrition to make it through the day. Keep away from anything with too much sugar because it will cause you to crash later on and sugar can inflame the skin. Try enjoying a breakfast high in protein and fiber for all day benefits.
