5 Quick & Simple Back-to-School Hair Tutorials

I start every fall promising myself that this will be the year I wake up early every morning and really make an effort to look polished for class. But after the first week or two I start hitting the snooze button, and end up rushing out the door with disheveled hair and comfy clothes. I don’t think you have to be “done up” every day, especially for class, but when I take the extra time to look good, I’ll feel even better. That extra boost of confidence means I’ll be more enthusiastic about speaking up in class or at work, which is always a good thing.
So, how do you primp without skipping out on those quality zzz’s? Just try one of these easy hairstyle tutorials that can be done in a flash.
The Fun Bun:
I utilized this fun bun more than once on a trip to Mexico last summer. It comes in especially handy on those humid days when you just know your hair is not going to cooperate if you attempt to wear it down. Plus, it can be done in basically 30 seconds. Perfect for those mornings when you really just need to cram for that final and not worry about what your hair is doing.
We’ve seen the bow-bun before, but I think a huge hair bow would be a little too much for class. For this look, you can let your hair dry naturally and do its own thing, whether that’s curly, straight, or wavy. Then just pull pack the front pieces to keep them out of your face, and make this sweet little bow. We think it’s so adorable that every other girl who sees it on you will want to know how it’s done.
The Hippie Headband:
Do you have more headbands than you know what to do with? Get some more use out of them with this unexpected, casual updo. We think this look would be perfect for messy, slept-in hair and it only takes three steps! Plus, the headband can be the perfect pop of color to brighten up your look on the days when you’re just feeling kinda drab.
The Teased Pony:
This look is the most va-va-voom of the bunch. To pump up your basic ponytail just add a little (or a lot) of volume. All you need to do is backcomb your roots before pulling hair (except for your bangs) into a low ponytail. Then, do a deep side part with your bangs and use a bobby pin to keep them loosely tucked above your ear. Lightly spritz some hairspray on the crown to maintain volume and use shine serum on the ends of your pony to keep it sleek.
The Messy Bun Two-Ways:
Don’t underestimate the messy bun. It’s a perfect fall-back when nothing else seems to be working. Simply pull hair up into a high bun and don’t worry about keeping anything looking perfect. Pull loose random pieces and use bobby pins to mess up and add texture to the look. You can also add volume to this look by teasing your hair and using a headband to keep it from getting too haphazard. Don't forget, when you wear your hair up like this, it's the perfect opportunity to showcase some dramatic earrings.
