Dating has some pretty great moments. Getting to try new restaurants. First kisses. Hand holding. Getting a text. Butterflies. It also has some pretty crappy moments. Not getting a text. Not having someone to go to a wedding with. Frustration. Sexual Frustration. You get the picture. Just in case you’re feeling a bit too much of the frustration and your pro-con list about dating is weighing heavily to the “con” side, here is some encouragement that yes, you are doing it right. You are totally kicking ass at dating right now. Here’s how I know it:

1. You’re Almost Always Over Your Ex
Like 97%, give or take. Out of the blue, you will be doing just fine and then in the middle of your day, you’ll just stop in your tracks and a memory of him will come flooding back. Something cute he did that one time. That song he liked on the radio. That time he was such a douche. It doesn’t matter. He’s kind of lurking in the shadows, but you’re mostly ignoring him.

2. Your Mind is Open
You are not swearing off men and turning into the crazy cat lady just yet. You haven’t even starting thinking you’re going to die alone! Just because the last date was a total dud, doesn’t mean the one you have tomorrow isn’t going to work out. You’re going to put on your favorite pair of heels and get your hair just right (even if it means spending 20 minutes in front of the mirror) because you never know – he could be the one!

3. You Don’t Waste Time on “But Maybe”
But maybe if you had gone out on date number three with that one guy the chemistry would have magically appeared. But maybe you would have met someone at that party you ditched for a glass of wine and The Notebook. You know that’s a waste of time. Instead you’re thinking about texting that cute guy you met at running club and what’s on your fall fashion shopping list. It’s all about the future.

4. You Know What You Want
Even if you’re not finding it, you keep your standards high and your eye on the prize. Stay strong, lady. Don’t compromise!

5. You Know Your Life is So Much More
You are not your dating life. Sure, as human most of our highs and lows come from our relationships or lack thereof, but you are so much more than what’s going on in the romance part of your life. You have an awesome job. You just really got into Breaking Bad. You go out with your girls all the time. Sounds pretty good, huh?
