Are you in a sex rut? We all go through ups and downs in our sex lives, but did you ever think it wasn't your fault that you're just not excited about getting down and dirty these days? Men and women both have libido killers that can really weigh on us. Check out these six things that could hindering your sex life today. 

Lack of sleep

How can you be ready for sex when all you want to do is sleep? If you're constantly exhausted from getting less than the recommended seven hours of sleep per night, it's time to reevaluate your schedule. If you can't do that, try getting busy before you're getting into bed. Lead your guy into the bedroom right when he gets home or get a little frisky in the kitchen!


When it's time for you and your man to have some fun, it's a pretty big mood ruiner when your phone goes off in the middle. Turn the TV off, put your phones on silent, and vow to stay as in the moment as you can for the next half hour. 

Not getting enough exercise

A healthy and satisfying sex life is just one more reason to hit the gym. It calms your mind and gives you energy for later. Another bonus? You'll feel better about yourself and be more confident if you're in great shape. 

Your allergy medicine

You know how that helpful Claritin or Benadryl dries up your sinuses so you can breathe again? Well, it might be drying up more than just your nose. If dryness is getting in your way, reach for a water-based lubricant. Giving each other a little rub-down will definitely get you in the mood. 


More than a glass of alcohol a day may be killing your sex drive. It ultimately acts as a sedative and can make you tired and mess with your hormone levels. It may lower your inhibitions (which can be a good thing), but don't let it ruin your night!


If you're stressed and worried, you're never going to make sex a priority. Fortunately, studies have shown that sex can lower your stress levels, so think of sex as a kind of therapy! If you've got to stop a running mind, meditate for ten minutes before jumping into bed.
