Living together is a big step in a relationship that shouldn’t be taken lightly, so think long and hard before taking the plunge. But when you’re certain, be excited about these 6 unexpected perks when you two shack up.
You Save a Ton
Moving in together for financial reasons only is definitely a no-no. However, it is a great bonus. Splitting costs will allow the two of you to save for a future wedding or house. Or maybe, just to take some awesome vacations.
Unexpected “Dates”
When you were living separately, you had those awesome date nights, but they often involve going out and making plans. When you live together, you get to experience “mini dates.” I call them mini dates because they are those unexpected moments that turn out better than dinner at a fancy restaurant. This might be when the two of you decide to spend Sunday afternoon enjoying a Netflix marathon, or visiting the outdoor neighborhood food market to get groceries. When you’re especially busy, you’ll really appreciate these little moments you two share that wouldn’t happen if you lived apart.
They Want to Help You
I hate spiders and any creepy-crawly bugs. One of the best parts of living with my boyfriend is that he’ll rid of them for me. Sure, I can do it myself, but it’s nice to live with someone who’s not afraid of setting up mouse traps either. Plus, having a guy around helps with the heavy lifting, like when you decide to rearrange the furniture in the living room for the fifth time.
You Get a Dog
Or a cat, or any pet for that matter. Raising an animal is really difficult to do alone, but sharing the responsibility means Fido will get the attention he needs and deserves. This may still be a challenge if you and your guy are working similar hours, but if there’s a little variety in schedules your new pup will never be lonely. Raising a pet together is a great bonding experience and if you go to a shelter, you’ll be saving a very lucky pup’s life.
You are Privy to All His Quirks
When you live with someone you really get to know them, both good and bad. Sure, you might try to hide some of your “single-girl” behavior, but eventually you’re going to break down and fall back into bad habits. Me? I looove snacking in bed. By boyfriend hates this, and no matter how careful I am and even if I take the precautions to hide evidence, he will find the crumbs. He, on the other hand, has some sick obsession with ESPN. Do all guys watch that crap 24/7?! The point is, you experience someone’s day to day life, and learn if you two will be able to commit long-term.
Playing House
Living together means trying out fun “grown-up” stuff. You two can host dinners and wine-tasting parties. Your friends will want to come over because you’ll actually have space compared to when you were living alone in a studio apartment. Be prepared for friends to come over often, which will make living together that much more fun.
