I love getting manicures. I think it’s a fun way to pamper yourself and relax while getting a little pretty. And I expect that they should last a week, but that’s not always the case. This is not to say I get them every week (my budget most certainly does not allow that), but if I’m paying money, I expect it to be quality. Problem is: I am very hard on my nails and I can usually manage to have at least one chip on every nail after a week.

So when I found a quick manicure-saving tip on fashion blog See Jane, I jumped on it! She had the genius idea to use a glitter polish to cover up ragged polish. So I went out and bought some sparkly polish (I used Essie As Gold As It Gets, $8) to try it out. And it is awesome.

First, make sure your hands are clean and none of your polish is flaking. Then simply swipe the glitter on the tips of your nails, focusing on the top third (so wider than a French manicure would be, but still less than half.) For extra staying power, you can add a clear top coat. So even though you know your manicure is grown out, this keeps your nails looking neat and saves you time and money. And everyone will be impressed by how trendy you are!

Just think about it: If you currently get manicures every week and extended it to bi-weekly by adding some glitter to the chipped tips, you'd save about $390 per year* (assuming it's $15/manicure, including tip)
