When I moved into my house about two years ago, I became sort of obsessed with online interior design websites. I could (and did) spend hours a day looking at how people have styled their homes. The problem is, so many of them seem to have unlimited space and unlimited budgets to work with.

I have neither of those. You feel me?

That’s why I love when Apartment Therapy does the Small Cool Contest every year. People around the world send in pics of their beautifully designed homes…all with impressively low square footage (like say, under 400 sq. ft.)! And these wonderfully compact rooms aren’t just beautiful – they offer up smart and clever design solutions. Ways to fit in storage. How to place furniture for maximum seating and space. How to hack Ikea finds.
