School’s almost out for summer and you know what that means, right? ROAD TRIP! I am a huge fan of road trips (and not just because I hate flying…). I love spending time with friends and family, actually having time to read or do other fun things I normally wouldn’t because I have too much else to do, trying local foods along the way…even with gas prices going up, up, up I’ll probably hit the pavement at least once this summer!

There are plenty of ways to plan a road trip (my husband’s favorite? Wing it.) but few that offer up a listing of the sights and stores you'll pass along the way. OnTheWay does just that, giving you not just an overview of the map, but a guide to what you'll pass.

Currently, it's still in its starting stages and shows mostly gas stations, big box stores and restaurants, but if you or someone in the car is a picky eater, it might help you decide where the best the eating option is. Sure, It can help you find a Starbucks between New York and Washington, but it’s better for local alternatives like Miss Shirley’s Cafe in Baltimore.

More interesting is the selection of unusual roadside attractions, museums and parks. Here you'll be able to get a quick glimpse at the towns you'll pass through and the attractions they have. Perhaps you'll find a ventriloquist museum worth popping into, or a National Park side route you weren't aware of. The database of oddities isn't as massive as say, Atlas Obscura, but it's a start. If nothing else it will better prepare you for what you'll see on the road and you'll be able to look up reviews of the World's Largest Groundhog before wasting time stopping in.

All I know is that this summer there will be a little less winging it, and lot more sightseeing thanks to OnTheWay!
