I know, another Olympics post…two days in a row? I wish I had an excuse, ladies, but I can’t help it. I just love the games. And really, I think we all gotta hand it to London for stepping up, because this is a tough act to follow. SO many drummers. That little girl singing! How do you beat it? (Or at least not totally embarrass yourself?)
Well, you hire Danny Boyle, the awesome director of Slumdog Millionaire. And while we have no idea what the ceremony will actually be like, we do know one thing: The stadium will be rockin’. Boyle’s Olympics playlist was leaked to The Telegraph this week and really, all I can say is those Brits are good at this whole music thing.
You can listen the the playlist on Spotify thanks to Gareth Croft or on YouTube. This list has practically everything, from The Beatles to Amy Winehouse to Adele to “God Save the Queen” by the Sex Pistols (a controversial choice, I’m sure). Even Monty Python and Doctor Who will be involved. As a music geek and clearly, an Olympics geek, I am so excited.
But, there are some notable names missed off the list, primarily all of the performers at the Queen’s Jubilee Concert, presumably an intentional decision to give the Olympics a unique feeling. This decision means that Elton John, Paul McCartney, Tom Jones and Cliff Richard are all not included as well as modern day stars such as Robbie Williams, recently appointed Gary Barlow OBE and Cheryl Cole and Jessie J.
What do you think about them leaving off the two great sirs of English music (Elton and Paul, obvi)?
