The cherry on top of back-to-school shopping will always be picking out new shoes. The perfect pair of shoes can be both the finishing touch on an outfit as well as the statement piece. (I mean, how amazing are those Tory Burch riding boots?!?) While you’re out stocking up on skinny jeans and notebooks, make sure to treat yourself to a new pair of shoes. Here are our picks for Fall 2012’s trendiest shoes.

Pointed Toe Styles
For starters, I can still remember Stacy, from What Not to Wear, reiterating that pointy-toe pumps are always the way to go. The pointed toe elongates the entire leg, creating the illusion of longer and leaner limbs. It’s a bonus that this trend has started to appear on flats, too. I’m not one to totter around in heels all day, so I love knowing I can know get an elongated appearance even without adding extra inches to my shoes. {Product Info: 1, 2, 3, 4}

Glitter and Shine Accents
Glittery metallic shades always shine in the fall. With the leaves changing colors and temperatures dropping, we need something to perk up the mood and shiny, glittery accents perfectly fit the bill. To get the most wear out of this trend, don’t feel pressured to buy the glittery 5-inch heels you can only wear for maybe an hour. Pick up some flats or booties with a shiny or glittery accent. You’ll have a wearable item that still sets you apart from the rest. {Product Info: 1, 2, 3}

Midwestern Flair
This trend includes the everlasting fall trend: the perfect pair of riding boots. Equestrian-style boots are always oh so chic during the fall. Don’t be afraid to pick a quality pair to invest in, they’ll last many seasons. In addition, more casual styles are in this season too. Suede booties are everywhere and can easily be your go-to shoe this fall. For more flair, pick a pair with fringe details. They’ll look adorable throughout the rest of summer and will still be in style next spring, too. {Product Info: 1, 2, 3, 4}
