Being single can sometimes get an unwarranted bad rap. I mean, yes, serious relationships are rewarding, but they're a lot of hard work, too. If you’re surrounded by friends who have all coupled-up and you’re constantly dodging relationship status inquiries from relatives, then this one is for you. Don’t let anyone convince you that you’re missing out; in fact they should probably envy you. Here are 6 ways to embrace that single girl status.

Try On Guys Like You Try On Clothes
I don’t mean you have to try on every shirt in the store, but the beauty of being single is you're able to be picky and keep trying things on until you discover what, or who, flatters you and your lifestyle most. If there’s a top you don’t like, you definitely don’t have to purchase it and you can even return it later. Apply this philosophy to your dating lifestyle. Don’t feel obligated to commit to something you just know isn’t right for you.

Go Mingle
One of the main complaints of my girlfriends who are married or in a serious relationship is the lack of girl time. Maintaining a relationship is hard work, so adding that commitment on top of work and other family obligations doesn’t leave as much time for the girlfriends. While you’re single you actually have the time to meet and make new friends, as well as strengthen existing friendships. So, get out there and have some fun with your gal pals!

Be Excited
One of the most exciting, yet fleeing emotions is the spark at the beginning of a relationship, or even just a crush. Yes, relationships are wonderful, but there is nothing more fun than the chase, or being chased. Even though they’re a little awkward the first dates are full of so much anticipation and excitement. You’re just getting to know someone and the possibilities are endless. So, before you settle down, go all out, and embrace the sweetness that is a crush.

Get Fit
When you’re in love it’s so easy to just spend a night snuggling on the couch watching your favorite shows, and snacking like no one’s business. Plus, your eating habits will likely start to resemble his. Maybe he can scarf down those nachos, but at half his size, you’d really need to watch your portions. When you’re single, you have the time and motivation to really focus on your fitness. And if you want to have a veggie-filled salad, all the better, since no one will be there to suggest burgers instead.

Be Selfish
The reality is, if you’re in a relationship you have to start being a little selfless, and even more so if you’re married with kids. Soak up the last of independence and selfishness while you can when you’re single. You don’t have to worry about cheering for a team you could care less for and your extra splurges can be all on you! No one is going to give you that look when you purchase yet another pair of to die for heels.

Get Rich
Single ladies can climb the corporate ladder even faster because they can hit up happy hour with the boss or stay a few hours extra without worrying about missing a date night. While you’re enjoying your single girl status, make sure to focus some energy on your career, because it pays off -- literally.
