I love grilled cheese, I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite food. And although I’m a huge fan of a classic and simple grilled cheese (with tomato soup, yum!) it’s fun to try some new variations from time to time. Here are 9 fancy combinations (with ingredients you can get at any grocery) that are super easy to make…it is just grilled cheese after all! How can you go wrong?

Flavor variation shown here (clockwise):

1. Granny Smith Apple slices with Provolone
This is a sweet combo, the tang of the sour apples pairs well with the light flavor of provolone. Apples also pair well with a sharp cheddar!

2. Jalapeno Peppers and Colby-Jack
For a little kick, just add jalapenos! This combo tastes great dipped in a side of salsa or guacamole.

3. Bosc Pear Slices with Ricotta and Honey
Honey and pear balance out the creaminess of ricotta and add a gourmet touch to the classic grilled sandwich. This would be a perfect party appetizer!

4. Cream Cheese (or Brie) with Raspberry Jam
Another sweet option! When grilled, brie is so creamy and rich…perfect with the sweet jam!

Here you can see:

5. Bacon, Avocado and Munster
Umm, can you go wrong here? Munster is a mild cheese, perfect with the bold flavors of crispy bacon and creamy avocado.

6. Summer Sausage with Banana Peppers and Swiss
This Italian-inspired combo is slightly spicy and seriously yummy. It’s perfect to make if you need an easy meal to cook for a date…it will win over any guy!

7. Caramelized Onions with Swiss
Warm, caramelized onions add a sweet touch to this pairing. Adding some Dijon mustard takes this to a whole new level!

8. Tuna Salad with Spicy Mustard and Munster
The classic tuna melt with a twist! Munster keeps it light and spicy mustard adds another flavor level. This is a great option for a lazy Sunday lunch!

9. Fresh Tomatoes with Pesto and Mozzarella
Do you love Caprese salads? Yeah, me too. Here’s the grilled cheese version. Just drizzle the finished sandwich with balsamic vinegar and you’re done. You’re welcome!
