Few things are more frustrating (and anxiety-inducing) than the cryptic texts during the beginning of a relationship. If you’ve ever wasted too much time over-analyzing his texts with your girlfriends, then this article is for you. We’ve deciphered the real meaning behind some of his most common texts.

He texts: "Won’t make it tonight. So exhausted from the gym.”
He means: "Not interested." Really? Any excuse about being “too tired” or “too busy” early on in a relationship simply means he’s just not that interested. If a guy is into you, he will make time to see you. Don’t keep waiting around for this one.

He texts: "What’s up? Where you at?”
He means: "I really wanted to hang out with my guys tonight, but now that I’ve had a few too many drinks I want to hook up. Let me know if you’re down. You’ve got low expectations about this relationship going anywhere, right?”

He texts:"What are you up to tonight?" or "You're going out with the girls this weekend, right?"
He means: "I want to hang out with you, but if I just ask you to dinner and you say no, I won't know if it's because you don't want to or because you already have plans, so I'm asking you in stages to get all the facts."

He texts: "Maybe." or "Sounds like an option." You know, anything but a firm "yes."
He means: "I am trying to be aloof and play it cool so you think I am cooler and more in demand than I really am." Or he just really can't commit. Even to dinner plans.

He texts: "I just saw a preview for that movie you were talking about. So random.”
He means: “I’ve been thinking about you- a lot. I want to know if you’ve been thinking about me too, but I’ve got to be real casual.”

He texts: "Hey. My friend is having people over for the game. You should come by.”
He means: “I like you, but more than I want to admit. I’d like to see if you can chill with my friends first, before making a big commitment.”
