Summer is coming to a close, so make sure you enjoy the warm weather and beach days while you can. Even though there's so much to look forward to this fall, don't forget all the fun August brings. Here's what we love about August.
September Issuesfrom our favorite magazines. Each August, magazines publish dictionary-sized issues full of fall fashion. I can’t wait to check out Glamour’s issue that was guest-edited by their cover girl, Victoria Beckham.
The Olympic Games are just getting started.
We’ve been busy drooling over hotties and cheering on our amazing athletes. The games are seriously entertaining, especially with all of this hilarious Ryan Lochte press. As of right now, China and the U.S. are neck and neck for the lead with the most gold and most medals altogether, but I’ve still got high hopes for Team USA. And after the insane Opening Ceremonies, we can’t wait to see what the Closing Ceremony will bring next Sunday, August, 12th.
Shark Week kicks off.
For an entire week, the Discovery Channel will air the most gruesome, and (dare I say?) jawesome feature programs of our favorite sea creature. Relax knowing you’re not as unlucky as the shark bait and toss a few back with a shark-week themed drinking game. Shark week begins August 12th at 9pm on the Discovery Channel, so now you’ll have TV plans for after the Olympics.
It’s Back-to-School season.
Admit it, even though classes and studying sounds like a drag, you miss the routine and seeing your friends on campus. Heading back to school includes starting the year off with a clean slate, so join some new clubs, pick up a sport, or just kick butt on your exams. Even if you’re not heading back to school, you still get to enjoy the back-to-school sales. New jeans and office supplies, anyone?!
There are loads of silly holidays to celebrate. Here are our favorites:
August 5th: International Beer Day
Yes, it’s really happening. This Sunday is International Beer Day. Celebrate by partaking in a little Sunday Funday. Try something new and experiment with some brews from around the world or just stick with your tried-and-true fave. Even if you aren’t a “beer person” you can try a beer cocktail. Either way, this is one holiday you won’t want to skip.
August 9th: Book Lover’s Day
Book lovers unite! I wish every day was book lover’s day, but it’s not always possible to spend an evening reading with work and social obligations. But, make no excuses August 9th! For some inspiration check out our reading list. Spend your Thursday curled up with a new novel or a classic favorite. Bonus points if you attend a book club.
August 10th: Lazy Day
Even better, this holiday falls on a Friday. Get an early start on your weekend by doing absolutely nothing. Make it a lazy day by pampering yourself with a DIY pedi/mani, a movie marathon, or spending the day at the beach. No matter what, just don’t work too hard today.
