So we all know that in these modern times, when it comes to relationships, it's not official until it's on Facebook. And until very recently, there were no graphics to display newly wed same sex couples, thus negating all gay rights. But not anymore — Facebook recently rolled out new same-sex icons designed to let the world know, as Jezebel so eloquently put it, that, “you're here, you're queer, and you're legally married to someone of the same sex.”

Even though they might be changing your email address without permission and effing with your contact information on other people's cell phones and the price of companies shares are going down, down, down, Facebook's doing at least one thing right: not being a jerk to gay people. The sometimes-evil social networking behemoth was recently given an award by GLAAD for its efforts to combat anti-gay bullying. At least the newly-outed Anderson Cooper can keep his fan page!
Let the co-opting of the same-sex marriage symbol by middle school best friends begin.
Our verdict: YAY! Seriously, what is taking everyone so long? Can’t we all just be friends and tolerate whoever we want to marry? But thanks Facebook for taking a step in the right direction!
