Bikini Buying Tips

As previously mentioned, I love swimwear. Here are some tips for bikini buying:

  • The best time to snag expensive swimwear at amazing prices is usually right after July 4th. Last year I bought some amazing stuff that I barely broke in last summer and am looking forward to wearing this season. Swimwear doesn’t go out of style that fast. A fabulous Vitamin A bikini is going to look just as fabulous in 2008 as it will in 2009.. And of course, you will feel all the better about wearing it knowing that you snagged it at half the price without sacrifing any of the fabulousness. That being said, I realize its January, not August. However, you can still find great deals on 2008 swimwear online. Usually, it just takes a little diligence and patience.
  • Bikini buying can get really expensive. Each piece might set you back $100. One way to avoid having to spend $200 on a bikini, is to pick the piece that is the most unique and then find a cheaper piece to match it with. For instance, last year I bought an amazing L Space white bikini top with cute gold accents and paired it with cheap red bottoms in an unknown brand. I bought the cutest ruffle skirt bottom in a powder teal color from Juicy and then bought a Vitamin A top with a pattern print in the same color on sale. The two pieces look great together, even though they are made by different designers and not intended to be worn together. Finally, I found a fabulous black Vix top with leather accents and paired it with the same cheap red bottoms I had already purchased for the white bikini top.  Mixing and matching is not only unique and a way to showcase a one of a kind bikini, but it’s also a great way to save money while still wearing upscale designer swimwear.  And last I checked, the mix/match bikini look is still incredibly fashionable.
  • If you can, stay away from white. White gets dirty fast when you are sweating in the Vegas sun. It doesn't clean as well and doesn't last as long. If you can't live without white, consider going for a cheaper brand or style, because it won't last as long.
  • The bandeau style doesn't work so well for the girl with big boobs. If you have small boobs, a halter style seems to maximize boobage.
  • Don't forget about accessories. If you can't afford the expensive Betsey Johnson bikini you have been eyeing, look for a cheaper style and accessorize with a silk hair scarf, gold hoop earrings, or a resin watch.
