When I moved to the city I did not realize how difficult it would be to maintain friendships. I was one of the lucky ones too--all of my best friends moved to San Francisco with me. Even so, I did not realize how distant we had all become until I saw everyone at homecoming weekend.

At just 22, Tory Johnson was fired from her dream job as a publicist at NBC News. What followed is an all too familiar story-days of denial, Häagen-Dazs, and daytime TV. Tory’s pity party turned into a misery marathon until she decided to own up to her new reality and move forward.

So this post started on Twitter.  I sent out a tweet asking what people had learned since college and got a HUGE immediate response.  Check out my Twitter followers’ responses and a few of mine are thrown in (mine are without quotes.) 

What have you learned since graduating college?

I am a sophmore in college, I have full-time classes and go to work with what used to be full-time, thanks to the recession I work part-time now. Now i am not making enough money and can not figure out how to arrage my time so I can get a second job and still go to school.

I've finished college and I've traveled a good chunk of Europe solo this summer before coming back to the US to face reality. I loved the independence and freedom of my travel this summer but money doesn't grow on trees. But now I don't know what to do with myself. I don't know who I want to be. I don't know what job makes me happy.

How (Over)Working Ladies Can Conquer Perfectionism. Do any of these sound familiar...

One of the biggest challenges young career women face is leaving their personal lives away from the office. Up until your first job, it’s totally normal to vent to everyone around you about the breakup you are going through with your boyfriend, the fight you are in with your best friend, or how rough you are feeling from going out last night.

You put together the perfect resume and emailed copies to five or ten of your target companies. That was several weeks ago and you haven’t heard a thing. Why haven’t any of your potential employers called?

We're young, we're fresh, we're hitting this world with all we've got.  For those of us who have graduated college already and have entered into the workforce, the recession can be a big scare to the confidence and self-empowerment that we have.  There's not one person that hasn't been affected by the current state of the economy and that means it can happen to any of us.
