Right, I'm in need of some serious advice... I'm probably not the first to admit that I have confidence issues, but right now I feel like there's no hope. The other day I looked in the mirror and felt like crying, it was a horrible realization. This past year I've let my weight go way too much. I think that's the basis of my confidence issues, and I need some advice as to how I can overcome it and something fun, easy and doesn't involve other people for exercise to help me lose weight. I'm going on holiday this year which is the first time for two years and I'm terrified. Please HELP!

sorry - I accidentally posted on my friend's address above. walk after every meal - just for 20 minutes.

i know EXACTLY how you feel! BUT, there are things you can do, and i guarentee you, they work..
i am not the daintiest girl, at 15 i'm a size 12-14, and i have always suffered with confidence issues, especially seeing all my friends become attractive and slim around me.
but about 4 weeks ago, i decided i couldn't live like this anymore.. just going for a pack of crisps if i felt the slightest bit bored, or sitting down and eating a tub of ben & jerries if i was rejected by someone.
i thought to myself.. losing weight isn't actually all that difficult.. all it involves is going without shoving sweet stuff in your mouth? and when you consider there are some people out there battling cancer, or losing their loved ones.. it's really not that big of a deal.
right, anyway, four weeks ago.. i made a regime, and by sticking to it.. i've dropped a dress size already!
basically, steer clear of sugary foods.
for breakfast, try porridge made with water, NOT milk, with frozen berries mixed in..
for lunch, an apple and some low fat cereal bar, or crackers..
and then for dinner, you can eat anything really, just try and stay away from fast foods, ready meals, and that sort of thing.
another thing is to make the right choices..
do you really need that sweet that your mates offering you?
do you have to have pudding?
are you just eating the chocolate for the sake of it?
allow yourself a small treat once in a while.. a piece of chocolate, or a sweet is fine a few times a week, we all need sugar to live happily!
if you get hungry, and i mean HUNGRY not bored, munch on an apple or a rice cake..
it's all about DISCIPLIN.
also, go for a half an hour walk every night before bed, just a brisk walk to get you breathing a little heavier.
another good method is to stick on some fast pace music, and as you clean your room, dance about a bit, make the most of it..
i also do 30 situps a night.. doesn't sound like a lot.. it's all i can physically manage, BUT i have noticed the changes in less than a month!
i promise you, give this routine a go for a few weeks, don't give in, stay strong, and i guarentee, not only will you look better, but you'll FEEL better! you're energy levels are up, and you'll feel mentally more confident and happier within yourself.
and the best thing about this, is it's not a diet, it's a change of habbit.
you learn to be able to decline tempting things, because you won't even fancy them!
and if ever you feel like you're going to give in, imagine how you'll feel the next day, when your proud of yourself for resisting that temptation!
4 weeks, and you'll see the results, and once you start seeing the results, you won't want to stop! ;)
good luck! you CAN do this! :)

Oh my Gosh, we're in, like, the exact same situation! Your advice is so so good :) Great motivator!

try to start exercising at least 4 times a week, it releases endorphins which isntantly make you feel better and also helps you loose weight for the long term feeling better :) If you could get a friend involved in exercising it would be great too as than you will b able to push and motivate each other to do it when you dont feel like it and if you cant do that go to your local gym (if this is an option) and try out any group exercise classes. these are great because the instructor pushes you harder than you would yourself. it also gives you an opportunity to make some friends and i know at my club the instructors get on your case if you miss a week :P
as for diet its always hard to fix emotional eating, im very much guilty of it myself but just make sure you eat lots of fresh foods, fruit, veg, wholegrains, lean meats, lentils, and you will find youself feeling fuller while eating less calories and as the girl above has said a small treat every now and then is fine

The bad news...If there was an "easy" way, we would probably all be thin. My friend has tried almost every "quick fix" weight loss product on the market & NONE of them have worked at all. It takes hard work & commitment to lose weight, unless you're doing something unhealthy to lose it. I have lost 30 pounds since June by watching what I eat & working hard at the gym.
The good news...Once you start looking & feeling great, it helps motivate you to stick with it & keep working hard. The toughest part is in the beginning, trying to get yourself into the habit of working out & being healthy about your food choices.
Good luck!!!

so those pills really don't work?

i think it depends on ther person. ive tried some pills etc and they kind of worked, like i lost the weight and kept it off but some women swear on them. you can get some crazy side effects though :S

Try to exercise at least 3-5 days/week for 30-60 minutes a day. The 30-60 minutes can be split up throughout the day so you don't have to do all of it at the same time, but make sure each session is at least 10 minutes long.

*Make sure you do workouts that are fun for you. Running can get boring, so if you have access to workout classes try those instead. Zumba is a great one, it's fun and you get a good workout. If you don't have time or access to workout classes and just want to start jogging, try to mix it up a little such as a 5 minute warm-up, run for 2 minutes, walk for one minute, alternating running and walking for 10-30 minutes. Ab work and weight training is great too! (don't worry, you won't bulk up from weight training!)*

Also, try to be more aware of the serving sizes when you eat. You'll be very surprised that when you start portioning out your food how it's supposed to be, you'll be more full and feel better. Of course, don't forget to choose healthy foods.

Please let me know if this helps! :-)

The most important things in terms of slimming down.
-Eat less fatty foods
-Eat more plants
-Work out
-Portion control
-Stay committed
It sucks, fatty foods always taste the best but I had to stop eating so much for a medication i'm taking and it has really given me a new view on just how much fat we eat without thinking about it. The good news is there are plenty of tasty plants out there and great ways that you can cook them. =]

Hey i noticed your plead for help for trying to lose weight. I am only very short in old measurements 5ft 1in and have always had a battle with my weight but the honest truth is i have always used the weight watchers way of life food management to help me lose my weight. I have had 4 children and am 52yrs old so after going through menopause and out of those 4 children had 2csections so i have had two scars to contend with as well and about 3years ago had to have spinal surgery so as you can imagine i have limited excercises i can do as my left leg was left with nerve damage so it is mostly numb. Anyway with all this stuff happening to me along my life i still found weight watchers the best.I have a very slow metabolism,in fact i think its dead lol lol!! Seriously tho i went to them about 20years go and went ech week unitl i felt as if i could manage my diet and exercise by myself. So after all these years when i have had a reason to cause my weight to blow out like each pregnancy and i was in bed for 4months unable to hardly walk until my spinal surgery, i always go backto the basics i learnt then. I lost over 18kgs by this simple realistic way of life after my spinal problems. I just eat at least 3pieces of different fruit a day,so much protein a day, etc and it usuallyworks out most people have a bigger loss then normal in the first week and averages out about to 1 to 2 kgs a week loss. As far as exercise goes every time you walk, run play sport etc you gain food back to have. They work on a point system and depending on your height and weight they allow you so many points to use a day and its quite alot of food and a fair bit of variety if you like alot of diff foods. I have used it only by memory the last time and as i said i still lost 18kgs. I usually walk around where i live for 30mins a day or go on my treadmill for eventually 30 mins to 60mins as i get stronger and am losing weight, its very enjoyable to listen to a music player too while doing these. Sometimes i swim as its better in a way as it takes the weight off your body while you are exercising or just swimming for fun for about 30 to 60 mins depending on how fit you are. Overall i have found this a healthy way to lose weight and if your budget isnt very big for food as mine usually isnt too good you can swap foods that are cheaper to buy and still be on your new way of lifestyle and weight loss regime. More than likely its altered to a degree now and if you decide to join as i did i only went along till i felt i could handle it by myself and my exercising was pretty basic so didnt cost me much at all. Anyway i wish you all the best with whatever you try to do and it still takes willpower but with allowances like wws have its pretty good and i never felt hungry. My husband is chronically sick afterhaving a stroke and he is trying to do this too and he has lost about 12kgs which is amazing as he has a battle exercising so that is also a good example maybe for you too xoxox
