I'm starting to really become interested in makeup, but I have no clue what should be in my bag! What are some of your basic starter brushes, foundations, etc?

Alright, I love make up so I always believe in having eyeliner, since I like for focus to be on my eyes. I stay away from foundation only because I am still young. If you are young and have nice skin there is no need for foundation it'll only ruin your skin.

Anyway, know your face shape and what looks good on you. Have eyeliner, mascara, a color of eyeshadow, a blush brush (which I use both to apply blush and apply a color base for my eyes) and some lip gloss or something.

Hopefully what I said helps. Try to focus on one thing at a time when doing make up. Maybe one day it's the eyes, then the next day the lips.

For me it's my mineral powder, eyeliner (liquid and pencil just so you have options), and eyeshadow (I have about 7 different shades and plan to add more). I like my eyes to be the center of attention. Oh and water-proof mascara.
It's also good to have chapstick or lipbalm to freshen your lips a little.
I don't use gloss often because they can actually cause your lips to dry out (or so I've heard) and my fiance is not a fan of kissing me when I'm wearing gloss. As far as lipstick goes...I just haven't found a good enough shade I guess and I hate having to blot :P
Don't feel as though you are missing out when it comes to blush or bronzer, some people actually don't need it if you already have defined features or a lot of pink in your face anyway.

Bare necessities: blush (something that isn't too harsh) and/or bronzer, mascara, black/brown eyeliner, and... that's it. I usually only wear mascara and blush.

If you want something to play with, get two colors of lipstick (something warmer, and something cooler, but that match your skin tone), one of those eye-color specific things of eye shadow, a eyeshadow set with nudes and blacks, and another type of blush (something more striking).

I always stay away from foundations and concealers, because they make you look fake, and like you caked your make-up on. On weekdays, the key is to make it look as if you aren't wearing anything (if you want to be French about it, of course). On weekends, dress it up, and go wild.

well, it seems as if everyone has got what you need down.
now we're on to the tips.

TIPS THAT ARE SURELY IMPORTANT:
1. If you're going to play around with the eyes, keep the lips natural. If you're going to play around with the lips and go a deeper color, keep the eyes natural. You do NOT want to look like you've been gang banged by Crayola.
2. When you're looking for a red lipstick, which you will be in a few months (if you're just starting, MAYBE a year), you'll have to REALLY look. One size does NOT fit all. Remember that.
3. Some colors that you might have been wanting to play with on your eyes just might end up looking not so good with your eye color. But there's no need to worry; there are PLENTY of colors in the crayon box - just don't use all of them at once.
4. When applying blush, to know where to apply, bend over for 30 seconds, then slowly stand up. Where your cheeks are flushed is where you are meant to blush. Apply your blush there and it will be naturally rosy every time.

Good luck, girl!

Some first time thing are mascara (lengthening ones are best, even if you have long eyelashes.), eyeliner ( I have both as well, you can even get eyeliner sticks for like a buck with two colors, most usually come with black and the other color, gives you options and is cheap!), eyeshadow (try for a multi colored pallet, or a pallet that goes with your eye color since you are just starting out), a soft blush color to go with your skin tone ( not too light or too dark, try everything on the inside of your wrist first to see if it matches your skin tone), and a lip color pallet. It gives you more choices!
