How do you motivate yourself to stay on a diet? I've tried, but I always seem to give up the moment the initial excitement of "omg I'm gonna look great" wears off. How do you prevent that? Anything you tell yourself or any reward systems you use? Thanks!

lol i have no clue. i'm still figuring out the same thing for myself!
Once you start to feel how much better you feel it does get easier to keep on track, also once you don't eat a food for long enough your body will stop craving it. But you have to remember quite a few things when dieting. First and foremost is shouldn't be a diet, rather a lifestyle choice, you can diet all you like but as soon as you stop your going to put all the weight back on. Now this doesnt mean your stuck on lettuce and apples for the rest of your life, just slowly remove bad habits (4pm chocolate/sugar binge anyone?) and replace them with good ones :) second is that the results will take time to really show, I was talking to my mum the other day about how she was annoyed that it didn't matter what she ate, she didn't loose any weight... she was eating healthy for a week and due to natural fluctuations in weight she went down 0.5 kg then back up so she gave up... don't do that! Third thing remember you will have off days. Im a fitness instructor and if you saw the diets that my instructor friends or i eat some days you would feel good about your diets! but you just have to remember that as long as you get back on track the next day (or next week, I'm just as guilty of this) it will be ok
as for rewards nothing beat buying a new top to show of your newly flat tummy or mini to show of your hot new legs....
good luck and remember not to give up!!

basically what she ^^^ said lol
you have got to want it I've learn that from personal experience. i have lost weight and its because i want to so u got to want to stay on ur diet
When ever I diet, I have reward days. I used to be really heavy (like over two hundred) and every time I lost fifteen pounds, my boy friend and I would go out for Low Fat Ice Cream. It's not as good as regular Ice Cream, but it's still delicious.
Basically it's moderation. Not EVERYTHING has to be perfect! So if you miss out a workout one day it's not the end of the world. You could just make up for it during the next few days or, just forget about it it's not that much a big deal! You can still have fun and enjoy what you eat, but you just need to notice your habits and change them slowly. Like I did a diet for like a few months. I lost alot of weight and I've managed to keep it off. It's best to start gradually and not just go straighjt into everyhting, take to time to notice what the problem with your diet is, then change it. And make changes like instead of taking the bus/car to work/school, walk or ride your bike. It's worked for me! Instead of taking the bus I walk now and at first when I started walking it took me like 30 MINUTES!!! But now it only takes me like 5-10 mintues! And after it you feel great! And remeber when you eat, don't feel guilty because there's not really such thing as 'good' or 'bad' foods. If you think less about these then maybe life would be easier. Yes, some foods have more calories in it than others but, you just need to know how to control them! I may only be 13 but... I'm desperate to lose weight and all this has been working for me! So... good luck people, I hope you ALL DO WELL!
The more you think about it, the more you will obsess over loosing the weight. Try to keep busy throughout each day, and only think about it when it comes to choosing meals. Remember what the happiness of being fit and healthy brings you. Two seconds on your lips and Forever on your hips is a saying my friends used to whisper around but i think it is so true. Translation: is it really worth having the chocolate chip cookie when its only on ur lips for 2 seconds and will distract you from your goals?? No it's not!
Now once in a while we all need our chocolate. So don't strive for PERFECTION. Strive for a new lifestyle that you can happily maintain.
Hope this helps and i'd love to answer more questions!
Diet is a dirty word when used in an obligatory context. What you are doing is reassessing your nutritional pattern. Here are a couple rules that have helped me;
1. Eat carbs early in the day, never after 6pm. leave that for protiens etc.
2. Have your breakfast within thirty minutes of waking up, this is when your metabolism is at it's peak and you need to keep it there throughout the day so eating at this point will contribute to it's capacity. Also do a quick 20 minute work out prior to this to feel vital through the day.
3. Break meals into 5 per day: Breakfast, Snack, Lunch, Snack and Dinner. This means little and often meals of no more than 400 calories for the main meals in the day with low fat percentages and light snacks in the interim to keep you full such as fruit or raw veg. The body can only truly breakdown 400 calories in one sitting before it stores the rest as fat.
4. Once you have worked out in the evening- I work full time so this is the only true time I have. Eat a predominantly protien based meal. For example; Any form of Meat or poultry grilled if fresh or the precooked packages are good (the ones without all the crap stuffed into them!). Eggs prepared any way you like without adding anything except seasoning. Fish prepared any way you like. Protien helps rebuild the muscles that you have been using whilst working out and won't be stored as fat.
5. Halve your intake of sugar. If you like coffee, don't choose a latte, have an espresso instead as this keeps you pep. Or drink Green tea. This has lots of natural antioxidants to help your body process the food you eat.
6. Keep a food diary, so if you have a special occaision where you cannot avoid being tempted for example a birthday meal or a wedding. You know how much you have ingested and can exercise accordingly to get back on track.
7. The best all round exercise is Cardio. This keeps your heartrate up and where it needs to be for your body to be burning up those calories! Exercise for the minimum of an hour a day at least three timmes a week, any less than that and it's not gonna make a difference!
8 Reward yourself but don't go overboard. Stick to your guns that you are changing your regime for the better and after two weeks to a month your body will crave the exercise and the nutritional food you give it. I have surprised several friends and especially my boyfriend by turning down offers of treats I would have gladly killed someone for about a month ago!
9. Find a substitute for your inner "gorger". I love cakes, I could make cakemix with my eyes closed, now I watch Ace of Cakes and Cupcake wars and then move on. I have had my cake...and not needed to eat it! Ha!
Hope these pointers helped at all. If you need any more help, i'm here for that!
