I've been trying to tone my abs, but the exercises I'm doing don't seem to be working. I've cut out foods with high fructose corn syrup, except soda, but I don't have it very often. I also work out a few times a week. Does anyone have any suggestions on new exercises, or maybe can give me ideas of what I'm doing wrong?

Pilates is your bestfriend...

Pilates is your bestfriend...

Doing crunches every day helps a lot. Even better if you're watching TV or need a break from what you're working on -- do about 50 crunches in a row, rest, then do some more. Even if you only do a few sets of this, it works wonders.

When it comes to changing your eating habits: eating fresh and carefully watching how much you eat is really, really important. A lot of people don't have a problem with eating healthfully; they have a problem with eating the right portion sizes. If it feels like it's not enough food, it's because you're accustomed to eating more. Give your body time to adjust.

take it from a bellydancer who doesn't do nasty crunches or pilates on a regular basis: Abs develop with posture, so focus on your walking/standing. trust me, I'm 240 but with a flatter belly than most size 22's. all my friends say i'm lying when i tell them my weight and have said i look between 160-180. if nothing else is working that says you would get abs by doing it, it can't hurt to try, right?

while walking, focus on tilting your hips forward/up and act like your hips are leading the way. usually just the motion of trying to have the muscles in your belly pull your belly button to your spine works. not too much, just enough so you can feel those muscles in constant use. also, think long neck, and relax your shoulders. not only will you appear more confident, but you will look taller, walk with more grace, and eventually tighten your abs really well. as with everything, it takes time. That, and i've heard more people finding success using this method along with other more normal exercises (jogging & mild weight training) than by doing tons of crunches/ab specific workouts.

Well, I totally agree with you!
Though, I have no idea if you're aware, pilates is all about tonifying every single muscle by exercises that work on your posture and balance. But still, posture is one of the best things to work on if you want a flat belly! :) Hope that helps!

Ahhh, getting abs for a women is a task- I'm there now. The key to tightening up your tummy is most definitely: cardio and diet. You can do all the crunches you want, but target toning is pointless. Jogging about a mile or more a day will do wonders! I always jog and then I'll park it on the floor to do variations of crunches. Planks, an inclined sit-up bench, classic crunches and all-over toning will be your mate-for-life. You need to remember to hit ALL areas of your core (rectus abdominus, Transverse abs, external obliques, etc...) in order to make everything go; don't forget that erector spinae! And the diet, eating clean is number one on the list! Upper abs are no prob with somewhat clean eating, but in order to get that last row of the lower abs, it's all diet and cardio. Like everyone else said, posture is a great thing to keep in mind and pilates is amazing! Make a medicine ball and stability ball your best friend and you'll see results in at least 3 weeks (it's a long, steady process).
Hope this helps!

Do your exercise the minimum of three times a week, any less that this and it's like you're not doing it a all.
If you can get it go onto Amazon and get Davina McCalls Body buff on dvd.
There's an amazing section specifically designed to give you amazing abs. It hurts like crazy when you're getting into it, but once the weight starts shifting from your tum, you'll know it's worth it!
I do the warm up, cardio and stretch every day and add the abs and boxing in twice a week.
Have shifted half a stone and i'm loving it!

Eat Clean, no processed foods and check out: bodyrock.tv it had killer workouts and recipes that will help show your six pack :)
