I've had acne since I was in 5th grade (I'm a senior in college now). I've tried EVERYTHING to make it go away, including prescribed medicines and pills. I finally found Persagel-10 in walmart and it seems to work pretty well to at least keep my skin from getting too out of control. But what I'm not having problems with is this: my skin never looks SMOOTH. I wear makeup everyday, including foundation and powder, and with or without the makeup my face looks uneven and just bumpy. I'm VERY self-conscious about it and recently my boyfriend made a small comment about it (when I brought it up he said "Yea I guess you're right..its a little bumpy but you're beautiful." so we don't need to tear him apart for hurting my feelings lol). Are there any at home remedies I can use to smooth out my skin or should I go to the dermatologist and see about something like a peel? I'll let you all know that I wash my face twice a day, take birth control to keep my acne under control, put on skin lotion to keep my face hydrated twice a day, and put persagel-10 on every night. I also put on one of those peel-off masks once a month, so I sort of know what I'm doing when it comes to skin, it just doesn't seem to work :( Please help! I've posted a picture of myself too, even though you can't really tell the texture of my skin in it

Well I have been threw the same since about 4th grade..
Your face if that is your pic looks a bit better than mine dose.
Ahm even though its hard laying off the foundation and just getting
comfortable with who you are can help. I mean foundation and such is not good for you.
It will clog up the prose even more. Washing it to much and picking at it to much can make it worst. I use anti bacterial scrub by Noxzema that can help.
I'm also in per-med, and I have to say a lot
may have to deal with oils, and what you eat. So staying away from high fat/fast food
can help. So, candy, fried foods, and things like that will not be good for you.
Then fish can also be good it has some really good omega 3s grate for skin and
over all health. Water can all so be your best friend, helps with everything.
Not over washing and staying consistent with your regaments.
Brake outs in most people happen b/c of estrogen, so until we are a bit older..and it is starts to even out. I dont really know anything else there is.. hahha well gave you my best :)
hope to be of any kind of help and sorry if you have herd it before
i know it sounds weird, but oats are really really really good for your skin. just normal cooking oats, they help your skin fine and smooth, i dont really know the physics of it, but it works wonders for my skin :)
just make a thin gruel of it, and use it as a wash every day, or do a thicker one, and make a face mask with it......... really does work well for me.
also, steaming your face regularly cleanses out the pores of your skin, and makes it feel lovely....... you can use herbs in the steam water too.
eucalyptus oil is great for cleansing and chamomile is really gentle and kinda calms your skin...... theres others too.
and then theres diet etc to help keep the acne under control, but im sure youve checked and tried just about everything........
anyway, hope it helped, and good luck :)
thanks! are quaker oats okay to use? im going to try making a mask once a week or so to see if that will help :)
well honestly your skin doesn't look bad at all but it may not be a great picture as you said.
i suffered from acne as well, its calm down a lot but I still get it. I would suggest not wearing make up it clogs up your pores even more and that is what causes the spot, like the post above oat is a good thing or just a very good ex-foliating face wash this get all the dead skin off your face and will start to make it feel smoother i use clean and clear blackhead scrub it works wonders but I don't know if you can get that in America though. and i really do agree with the post above eating more fruit and drinking more water does help as well.
you can use tee tree oil that dries out the spots but also can dry out your skin so you will have to use a good moisturiser.
i would say if none of this does work then go and see a dermatologist they can then point you in the right direction.
Lets us no how it goes, and i wish you all the best.
and it was nice or your boyfriend to tell you the truth.
they do sell the clean and clear blackhead scrub here in america :) i use a "pore minimizing" face soap now, i think by Olay, its supposed to help regenerate new skin cells faster also. but i use an exfoliater pad from neutrogena every other day too. i have some tea tree oil i think i will start using again too. thanks for the help! :)
i had the same problem and the worst thing is that my pimples had NO HEADS! they used to be so sunk inside my skin and i couldnt even take them out! i went to a derm and he prescribed me a miracle medication called "Roaccutain" ask him about it as i did because i heard about it from my friends, it's just a concentrated vitamin A. and you can use facial washes that contain Salicylic acid or benzoyl oxide like "L'Oreal" its the best and worked for me like a charm!!!
What foundation are you using? Liquids are bad bad bad!! I used them a lot, and it just clogged up my pores and made my face look greasy. My face is naturally really red and a different color than the rest of my body, but Bare Minerals is amazing! It evens skin tone, and is actually not bad for the skin :)
Good luck!
recently i have been using a pressed powder foundation and a little bit of liquid just on my nose (it tends to get more red than the rest of my face, call me rudolph lol). i also try to wash the applicator daily or every other day with my face soap so the dirt doesnt build up in it. can you get bare minerals in stores or do you have to order it?
if the gel is working but your skin is just bumpy, exfoliate with a scrub-pad + acne wash everyday
(yes everyday)
its not bad for ur skin, and you can get rid of dead skin thats probably making your skin look bumpy etc
I know this because I've had acne since about fifth grade, and I had the same problem.
You can buy the scrub pads from Shoppers Drug Mart (or basically any store like that) for about $2.99 and you get 2 pads.
Replace them everyday 10 washes i would say
i use the neutrogena wave vibrating exfoliater thing with the special "smoothing" pads. they seemed to work for a while but just recently everything seemed to just STOP :\
Okay, it might sound weird but this has worked absolute WONDERS! Try apple cider vinegar. Hard to believe right? Google it. It works SO well. My friends and I have had amazing results and I have pretty bad acne. Either drink it or splash it on your face. Follow it with a little bit of moisturizer. NOTHING acidic. Try cocoa butter lotion. Apple cider vinegar has amazing health benefits and helps will all of my skin problems, Black heads, whiteheads, AND my acne scars. Really, just trust me and try it. Every once in a while people say it doesn't work too well but that is SO rare. You might wanna dilute it if you're gonna drink it cause it is pretty strong stuff. Its cheap, effective, and it works wonders for me. Hope this helps! Please try it.
thanks so much for the reply :) im going to try that as soon as i have a chance to get to the grocery store and buy it :) i'll post if it works! thanks again!
When you're acne prone, and you feel you must wear foundation, at least make it a GOOD one. Not the cheap stuff. Makes me sad but sometimes the expensive stuff really is loads better lol.
I use this: http://www.merlenorman.com/Makeup/Foundations/45/LUXIVA%C2%AE%20Aqua%20B... annnd it's great :)
