I decided to have a birthday dinner at my place rather than go out and make everyone spend lots of money. Anyone have any good recipes or suggestions I should consider-- there's going to be about 25 people? It's BYOB so I'm not concerned with drinks but I want to make sure there is good stuff to eat.

I don't know about you but sometimes it's fun to have an interactive pot luck and tell everyone to make their favorite dish or do something unique like cook Moroccan food so you can theme the party - makes for great pics and everyone can easily remember your party form the rest because it was different.

I agree, the easiest thing to do is host a pot luck dinner. Have everyone bring something small, with 25 people coming you should have more than enough food. You could send out an evite with a list of items needed for the dinner and let people volunteer what they want to bring etc..

I threw a party once and had lots of people coming - I didn't want too spend too much $$ or all my time in the kitchen, so I made a bunch of different grilled cheese sandwiches using different ingredients. It was a big hit. In fact, if you (or anyone) is interested, I'd be happy to post some recipes!

Hey can you post those recipes about the grilled cheese.

Sure!
Actually, I used a grill to make my job - and clean-up - even easier! I used ham and cheddar, brie and apples, gruyere and fig spread. I also bought a bunch of different types of bread (Trader Joe's is good for this), like sourdough, olive and I think a cranberry/walnut. Depending on how adventurous you and your guests are, you can also add different condiments. In addition to the mustard and ketchup, I had olive tapenade, and sundried tomatoes. This way, people can put whatever they like on it. Good luck!

Hey can you post those recipes about the grilled cheese.

I've had pot luck dinners before too and asked everyone to bring a dish and then I made the main dish such as BBQ or some sort of chicken concoction and then had a vegetarian choice too. Oh and asked two specific people to bring dessert. Usually works out quite well and then you're not stuck making a whole meal for your own birthday. Plus it will still be cheaper than going out! Happy Birthday!

I just read the question and it was just what i was saerching for!!! Vanessa can u post those recipes??? :D thank you!!!

Google low budget recipes :D

A good old fashioned stew or slow cooker dish that can go with couscous, pasta and rice. Make sure you have two options - meat and vegetarian. Get a couple of someone to bring desserts. It has worked for me for a lot of different events.
