So, basically, I'm a nerdy white kid in the middle of Wisconsin, and my fashion sense is pretty iffy so I'm looking to change my style a bit. Most of what I wear consists of eighties' band t-shirts, jeans and Converse low-tops. On top of that, I'm in all honors classes, arts, theater and am just generally swamped with life, so time isn't exactly something I have to spare. Does anyone know how I could maybe go about changing my style but still keep it fashion(and time)-friendly?

You can shop online (: my favorite store is Forever 21, and their clothing is decently priced, nothing real expensive. And you get free shipping if you order over $75 ;) Also, their clothing is very trendy, and range from runway to lounge wear. Good luck!
EASY! grab some magazines first to read up on the current trend (you dont wanna bother buying clothes that arent cute) and then head over to charlotte russe or forever 21 (they are VERY affordable. i love them!) and buy yourself some outfits. and plenty of shoes. converses are only cute till your about 12 years old, then you need a nice pair of flats or something.
start with just some fashionable tops thatll go good with jeans. tshirts are nice for lounging around the house but outside you should look presentable.
and if your worried about time, just take a day and get it over with! invite some friends and go to the mall. spend that christmas money! soon youll be look fiiinneee :]
Skinny Jeans pair well with low-top converse... and they're not too expensive if you shop at discount stores :)
Haha! Welcome to my life a few years ago.
TJ MAXX and the clearance racks at Kohl's were my best friends. I bought a couple of blazers and skirt suit sets for cheap as hell, which made great mix-n-match pieces. Surprisingly, you CAN wear those with T-shirts (though I'd probably stick to more solid colors or mildly patterned, but you don't have to!) and jeans!
Also, I invested in (meaning I blew a lotttttt of cash on, but they were worth it) a verrrry nice pair of knee-high leather stiletto boots. They. Are. Fabulous. With. Anything. They can dress up a pair of jeans, or add a dash more daring to an already dressier skirt. Seriously, I cannot tell you how much I love those puppies! Though, if you're going to put any larger amount of money down on something like that, be sure you take care of them! Mine get cleaned with leather cleaner any time they go out (which, being in Wisconsin, means snow and road salt half of the year... and mud... and city grime, depending on where you live - I lived downtown Milwaukee -.-), then tucked back into their box so they don't get anything tossed on them and scratched up. :/
But honestly, what's wrong with some 80's band shirts and a good old fashioned pair of Chucks once in a while? You will always feel sexier and more confident in things you're comfortable in, so just take slow steps if you really are determined to change your style.
Good luck!~ :D
Dude, thank you. :D
I was already sort of leaning toward heading to TJ MAXX -- my best friend loves it there, and is also incredibly stylistically competent -- and that tip about the blazer is definitely going to come in handy.
I can't really afford to blow so much cash on a pair of boots, but I'd definitely consider it if I could. On top of that, I don't exactly have the time for maintenance, lol. I live in La Crosse, which gets pretty bad. One of my other best friends swears by a pair of demi-suede ankle boots. What are your thoughts on those?
Thanks a ton for your help. =]
I know what you guys mean about how messy it is outside this time of year especially. I live in Monticello, MN and there is slush every where! As far as suede boots goes, I personally wouldn't just because I was retarded and wore some to a football game that had no bleachers and they got a bit of water and mud on em and now they softness is gone and they look just plain rough. I got a pair of Doc Martins about a month ago and I absolutely love them. You don't have to do maintenance on them unless you want. I got the doc martin shoe polish. It take like two seconds to do it and You don't have to do it again until they are lookin like hell. And the polish makes them water repellant. Plus they hold up well with snow. I walked through a foot of snow in them and water didn't soak through. They're comfortable, and go well with anything. except sweats.. haha

Accesories ?
Look around your local town and see what others are wearing
and if you dont like that style then be yourslef .
No one can change you, its better to stand out than fit in :) xx
I love Charlotte Russe, they have pretty much anything and everything. As far as accessories they have billions. I just went there this sunday and in a matter of 30 minutes, I got a really cute shirt, some flats, and two big rings for $50. For the most part their clothes are pretty inexpensive. Or if you go to Plato's Closet you can find tones of cute stuff for real cheap. I just went there for the first time this fall and at first I thought it was going to be gross like the good will or something, but it's really not.
& I totally agree with the girl above me, that's all I do. I don't usually have much spare cash so I'm not usually willing to spend it on a magazine ha, so just people watching at like a mall or something is good to do too. GOOD LUCK (:
Online is a great place to find good deals (and some pretty unique, stylish clothes). Nonetheless, designer websites like Lacoste and Juicy Couture have fabulous sales. Even the Nieman Marcus web site has UNBELIEVABLE clearance sales! (NM prices are like cheaper than TJ MAXX, even though the original prices are outrageous). Puma sneakers are comfortable, cute, and excellent quality. You can find them on sale online (also check Zappos.com); I have had a pair of PUMA sneaks since 7th grade. Now I am a senior in high school, and they are still in gr8 condition! Good luck!
