it's a great site where challenges are proposed for certain lengths of time and the co2 saved is counted when you accept the challenge. it's really enjoyable to see what little things you can do, without being obsessively over the top.
I like the earth lol I don't really do much "green" activity now, but I think people sort of have a responsibility to take care of the planet because we've reached the level of collective smartness that allows us to understand that it's possible to save the enviornment... If you knew you sprained your ankle would you just pretend you never found out and keep bicycling?
Hhhmm I'm not so much worried about the Earth as I am the people in it. See if we use up the resources and humanity were to die out, the Earth would be able to recreate itself. I found this out by attending a lecture by Alan Weisman for his book "The World Without Us."
I do things to be more green and to save money, like I stopped using fabric softener and dryer sheets in favor of those plastic dryer balls. I think it is an issue, but one that requires a dramatic cultural shift, a shift that's unlikely to occur.
I'm actually very concerned about the earth. I don't recycle, even though I should. I travel with my fiancé (who happens to be a trucker), so it's really hard to do the right thing. If we see garbage bins that are separated for specific things (like paper, plastic, and glass), we'll do that. I wish more truck stops and more rest areas had those, because truckers (as well as others) tend to buy a lot of plastic because of sodas and what not. I think if those kind of places had them, more people would make the right choice and recycle instead of just chucking stuff into the regular old garbage can.
I love this Earth. It's a gift from God and we have destroyed it. It's still beautiful, but it's hard to see the beauty through all the smog and litter. I actually have this OCD about picking up trash when I go out. Before I left my hometown, I would take a walk at the public walking track not far from my mom's apartment. I would stop and pick up the garbage from the people who had been there, no matter what it was. Thank God, I never found anything like dirty condoms or something, because that would've just been too much. I think that's the only real thing I do for this planet. I think I can at least do that much since I don't tend to do anything else. ):
That'll change once we get our own place and settle. (:
Ok, all of you who are worried about the Earth, have you ever considered that you use up to 118,000 non-biodegradable, full of plastic and chemicals, 'sanitary' menstrual pads/tampons in your lifetime? Imagine if everyone started using things like the Mooncup or reusable fabric menstrual pads, now THAT would help the planet. The pads sound icky, I know, but they're ecological, good for your skin as theyre cotton, wont dry you out or irritate you like conventional pads, and you can get them in all sorts of cute colours and designs :) I've just ordered some from moonrabbits.co.uk, eagerly awaiting them :D
