What should I do if I have trouble sleeping?

first of all sleeping pills a DONT. use aromatherapy to relax your senses.

listen to music :D . or think about something
that happened that was exciting during your
day . that helps me fall asleep .

think about someone, or yea listen to some music it will drift you off. if u have a hott bath before bed that could help too. anything that makes u feel relaxed and think about someone u like, that helps me ! :)

Ive always had problems sleeping..
stop using computers or watching telly 30 mins before you sleep. it does help and spend the time reading or somthing like that.. a cup of tea helps too.. and a bath before bed is good too

i was told imagin yourself sleeping, thats supposed to help, i like to read before bed, helps me, and having a good routine, so going to bed at the same time every night and wakin up the same time evry morning...

other than that i dont really know, my sleeping pattern is terrible haha

My sleeping pattern is beastly bad, but I've found that drinking a cup of tea or two before bed helps a lot, and so does getting everything [i.e., homework, computer time/watching tv] done a half hour or so ahead of time.

For me drinking some tea before bed can really help, It makes me tired and listening to music is really great as well.
I would never try sleeping pills, They aren't safe.

It helps to go to sleep at a regular hour, reading before going to bed helps me too. But don't go on the computer or watch television right before you go to bed, it's too exciting. Pills aren't a permanent solution, if you have a sleeping problem you should try to find the cause and try to solve the problem that way. But they aren't dangerous, if you use them in a right way. Going for a walk outside, half an hour or so, could be a help too. And some sort of relaxing teas could help. Good luck! Hope you get better sleep!

Hot chocolate :D

Here, I'll make a list:
Bathe before you get into bed
do some easy exercises a little before (10 push-ups, yoga, etc.)
decaffeinated tea
a night cap (rum, brandy, red wine, but not vodka or other more harsh drinks)
do some breathing exercises.
-slowly increase depth of breaths
-start breathing through your nose, then progress to mouth. Pay no mind to snoring noises.
Get someone to come sleep with you, be a boy, girl, dog, cat or sheep. Someone calm, who will sleep.
if you think you need it, use medication occasionally. Key word is occasionally.
Make sure you're getting enough exercise during the day. Take stairs instead of elevator.

A really good tip is is to have a routine that you do every time before you sleep. Stick to it and it will train your brain "hey its time to sleep". Also meditate, lie down in your bed and countdown from 10 to 1 and at every number clear your mind of everything and keep doing it til you fall asleep it alway works for me.

Yeah, I agree, routine is important. Therefore it's important to go to bed at approximately the same hour each day. Otherwise your bioritm is disturbed. Make sure it's darker in your room half an hour before you go to sleep, do some relaxation excercises,...

I don't know if a night cap is a good idea. :S Alcohol makes you fall asleep faster but you sleep less deep, you wake more frequently in the night, so it doesn't improve your night rest.

pretend to dream, imagine things

thank you! i'll be trying almost everything. i did a few of them and some of them don't help much but im glad that there are other choices <3 thanks ladies!

I know everyone is saying tht pills don't work, but I'm on Melatonin 3MG, and it totally corrected my sleeping problems! Now I sleep through the night without waking up and staying up for over 2 hours each time. Just try it. Its an over the counter, and it can't hurt you.

What I do is I watch a movie or read. Both make me very tired which can help me fall asleep after I shut off the TV or close the book.

I count backwards from 100 by threes (so it goes 100, 97, 94 etc...). That's what works for me.

Just a suggestion
if you can't sleep because you're thinking about stuff/ stressing out and worrying about things you have to do and thinking you'll forget them
just keep a notebook or some post-it's beside your bed and write the stuff down
it's pretty helpful

hope this helps

I've always had trouble sleeping but recently I have learnt how to combat it.
These are a few things I do if I know that I might have trouble sleeping.

-No TV or computer at least half an hour before sleep.
-A cup of tea, either chammomile or peppermint. OR a hot chocolate, something milk based.
-Burn some lavender inscence, put some lavender in your pillowcase or make up a spray (lavender oil diluted in water) and lightly spray it over your bed.
-If your mind is racing, before you go to sleep talk to somebody or write it all down.
-Relaxing music (granted, I have been known to fall asleep to Metallica and Def Leppard), try music with no lyrics.
-Hot bath, again you can put inscence in the bath.
-Don't eat before you go to bed, try and have dinner about 3 hours before bed time.
-Make sure, no matter what time you go to bed, try and wake up at the same time everyday, to keep your sleeping patterns.

Sorry if there has been some repeats but I hope you can find some of these useful.
