I've heard douching can be bad for you. It washes out good bacteria from the vagina and can leave you more vulnerable to yeast infections, etc. I've never douched and have never had a yeast infection ::knock on wood:: Again, I'm not a pro on this, but that's what I've heard.
Douching is the process of cleaning out the vaginia (very simple explanation). If you do not know what it is, look it up. I'm sure Google can explain the whole process to you much better than I can.
Now, for the main question:
Douching, when done sparingly, doesn't pose any real health risks. However, done repeatedly, like others have said, it can wash out good bacteria, leaving you more prone to infections. Your body cleans itself out on its own (this is what vaginal discharge is for), so douching is, simply put, rather an unnecessary action.
No, no, no, no, NO! Do NOT douche! I have done quite a bit of research on douching and everything that I've managed to bring up says that it does more damage than good. I never douched in my life until, well, recently and I've never had a problem until I started douching. I douched sparingly, I never did it repeatedly. However, thanks to douching, I got my very first Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and it has been one of the most painful things I've ever had to go through physically.
First of all, douching can cause irritation and inflammation of vaginal tissues, which make it easier for STDs and HIV to set up shop in our bodies. Secondly, douching can actually cause an infection by disrupting the natural balance of bacteria and yeast in the vagina. If you already have an infection, then thirdly, douching can complicate an existing infection, perhaps even to the point of serious health risk.
Douching is SUPPOSED to help cleanse the vagina, but what I don't think most women realize is that the vagina has a natural way of cleansing itself after everything - like sex, their periods, yadda, yadda, yadda. The list goes on. If you want more information on douching, my suggestion is to look that up on google or even go ask your doctor.
I don't care if most women find it 'gross' or 'disgusting' to not douche and I personally don't care. It's their bodies and their health, but I will offer my advice to anyone who asks about something like this. I don't want to see anyone go through something as painful as a UTI, because those can last up to anywhere from 6-9 weeks (if it goes untreated and that was totally my case). So, my advice again is, DON'T DOUCHE!
i agree with the person above: DONT DO IT! when i got my first yeast infection, my first thought was to douche, until i researched it before hand. lol. i thought it would help clear the infection but from everything i've read, it does the opposite. if your worried about a smell or something, go to a doctor. also, dont use anything with fragrance "down there" ie- tampons, pads, toilet paper, etc. that area is super sensitive, and the fragrance can cause irritation or infections, even if you're not allergic to perfume. and when possible, wear white cotton panties, not colored ones. the dye can irritate the vagina and can also cause infections. (i learned that from my doctor)
Don't ever douche!!! But if you wants to clean, outside down there, I'd recommend Fem Fresh, its a PH balanced body wash specially formulated for down there. They also do wipes and talc.
Douching is BAD! If you keep it up, it can actually destroy the lining of the vagina! I can think of NO reason to do one. I think that douching must have been thought of by a man who had no clue how the female body works!
Every once in a while can be good, in case you have some funky stuff going on you haven't caught yet, and if a doctor tells you to. It is not always bad!
Eurgh I can't even imagine doing that. Isn't it a weird pump thing and you just push it and it pushes loads of water into you? I definitely wouldn't recommend doing that. I think it's a religious thing too, (not sure) where people feel 'dirty' on the inside and out so they feel like they have to flush all the bad stuff out. But the vagina is 'self cleaning' anyway, so you don't need to. Just use something like FemFresh wipes that will clean you and help keep ph balance up.
My mom use to douche because that's what her doctor told her to do and she ended up losing two babies. Come to find out your vagina has a natural way to douche.
Im sorry what is a douche??

Yes I heard that too. And I agree that's it's not very beneficial health wise.
okay wht is douching?
I've heard that it's bad because it washes out good bacteria.
And I heard that it may hurt very badly.
I tried once and cried. Never again!

Don't douche. The vagina cleans itself naturally.
