I agree with what others have said but make sur eyou check the school codes before bringing anything. I know here we can't have bed risers, hot plates, or coffee pots.

milk crates to create extra shelving, seats, and tables. Good bedding. Toiletries, first aid kit, flip flops to avoid shower fungus. Fun costumes because there are always theme parties. Lots of art or wallhangings for your walls. Definitely christmas lights. Dorm room lighting is a nightmare and can give you a migraine but some tacked up xmas lights around the room and a desk lamp will make it cozy. Good walking shoes, rain boots, and winter boots depending.

Your favorite movies, books, music. Anything you can't live without because you will be there long enough to call it home. throw rugs are a must! your own broom or mini vacuum. If you don't have one you will always be borrowing someone else's. tacks, tape, poster putty, scissors, crayons. It's college but you'll be doing weird arts and crafts projects too.

and your favorite snack in bulk. college food is not always available or very awesome. you will need a mini fridge at some point but not right away.

Bed Risers can be a huge help in creating space in a small room, and most beds in dorms are compatible with them. Definately bring stuff from home to help it feel more homey. It'll help.

Don't bring yearbooks, or many books that you enjoy to read, unless you consider yourself a HUGE reader. College courses require so much reading, I doubt you'll feel like reading in your downtime. And yearbooks can just make you feel even more homesick. Plus you need your bookshelf space for textbooks!!!

First and foremost bring your common sense. You'll probably be in a lot more situations where you'll need it away at college!

As far as actual stuff is concerned, a mini fridge and a hot pot is a must!

Good luck!

Don't take too many clothes. I brought most of my wardrobe first semester and I wore about a third of it.

I'm actually going through the same thing right now so I hope I can help. Don't overpack, most dorm rooms are quite small and you have to share with someone. Uhm personal stuff for that special time of month we all hate so much, clothes for the season, hangers, long towels, pillows, tv (Ask roommate if they have this), computer/laptop, shower stuff, blankets, shower tote, fabric softener, laundry detergent, lock for drawer to protect important stuff like money, extension cords, alarm clock, cloth laundry bag, poster putty, bath robe, school supplies, tissues, DVDs and DVD player, cell phone, stackable plastic totes if you have to bring so much stuff, calendar, sheets, candle warmer since lit candles aren't allowed, a few snacks, and anything else you can thing of as essential.
