What are some good ways to maintain a healthy diet in the workplace? I feel like I've been eating so much crap lately and I don't know where to start to fix it. I'm always getting snacks at the vending machines, going out to eat with coworkers (putting a dent in bank account too), and then doing happy hour after work. Any tips?

The above recommendations are good ones. I'm a dietitian and I know that an office's food culture can make or break a healthy diet. In terms of fundamentals, make sure you eat a high protein (over 20g) breakfast and a good protein/vegetable lunch. I agree that packing your lunch is the best way to go, especially with happy hour already providing a tempting menu of bar food. Control over your food quality is so important and a packed lunch is inexpensive and calorie controlled. It's great to have some snacks around but give yourself structure. My favorite is a piece of 70% Dark Chocolate (Chocolove XOXO, makes a delicious 77% bar) with a mug of unsweetened green tea. I'm a big believer that good meals = health and weight loss. Snacks can be important for longer stretches of time, but unless your go to snack is lean meat and vegetables, it is likely relying on snacks to get you through a work day will only lead to excess calories, without the essential nutrients you need.

Take some healthy snacks to work, like a piece of fruit, some nuts, or a health bar (not one loaded with sugar). Try taking your lunch with you a set number of times a week. I try to only buy lunch twice a week, and to take a salad or something in the other days. You can make these up on the weekend and store them until you need them. Because you have these snacks with you at your desk, it is much easier to eat them then to go looking for something else.

If you really really need some chocolate (I know I do sometimes) try and get something like choc coated almonds or apricots. They will give you that sugar/choc kick but not as bad as some other choc bars! Even try cooking some healthy biscuits like Anzac's to take with you to work, at least then you know what's in them!!
