I recently lost my wallet and cell phone. What's the best way to start over getting my things back in order? I know I need a new license... but I just need some help and direction. If you ever lost this type of stuff... What did you do? This has never happened to me before and I'm freaking out.

You cannot have your social security number "canceled" in the way credit cards are canceled, but you can always get a replacement card for free if it is lost or stolen. Here is the link to the Social Security Administration's page about getting a replacement card: http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=251

i had my wallet stolen once so i feel for you. i didnt realize it until i was on my break from work and was starving and went to pay for some food =\
Start by calling your cell phone company and telling them to shutoff you phone so whoever can't run up your bill or get any of you info from it. Then cancel all credit cards and put a hold on you debit card or checking account. That out of the way, you will need to replace your license, ss card, etc. it really sucks and i know all of it is a HUGE hassel but thiefs don't think about that...=\ im sorry i happend to you

First you need to file a police report and tell them everything you can think of that was in the wallet. Then go to your bank and and call your credit card companies. Give them the police report number for reference if needed. In my case the person wrote checks and every time one went through I had to fill out an affidavit at the bank saying that I did not write the check (this is where I refrenced the police report). Next go to your DOT to get your license, make sure that they give you a new number! Now you can got get a new SSN card, or you may be able to print one off the internet. If your phone was stolen to call your wireless company. Your homeowners/renters policy (or your parent's if you are in school) may cover some of the cost. HTH!

P.S.S. (Lol) For your cell phone, just go to your phone company, and let them know it was lost. They'll suspend the service on that particular phone, and should give you a new phone if you have insurance on it.

P.S. For your SS card, just go to your local Social Security building. It takes a long time to get a new one though, from what I've heard.

Go to your bank and cancel any checks and/or debit cards. Let them know you recently just lost your wallet, and they should take care of everything. Also, if you have credit cards, call your credit card company and tell them you need your card(s) cancelled, and they should take care of that and mail you new ones. You might have to pay like, $10 for a new license (that's how much it is here, but it varies by state I believe), but it shouldn't be a big deal. Hopefully you didn't have your SS card in there, but if you did, take care of that IMMEDIATLY as well. It should be one of the first things you do, because that is your identity right there. And, make sure you don't put it in future wallets, lol. Keep it in a fire safe or something else you can lock up at home.

I think that's about everything. Sorry to hear you lost your wallet. If you do happen to find it though, after you change everything, just cut up your cards and/or checks.

I had my purse stolen, with everything from an iPod, to my wallet (with my lisence, SS card, checkbook and credit card in there) and my car/house keys.

Minutes after I realized it was gone, I called to cancel all my accounts- checking, credit, etc. The dumbass already everything else, he wasn't going to get my money, too.

Then I had new keys made so I could get from point A to point B.

Then I had my mom drive me to the courthouse (since I was no longer in possession of my license) and got a new one made. They couldn't do anything about my SS card.

It took me forever to get everything back in order. It was probably the most lost I have ever felt.
