I’m not going to lie to you here, I probably know every single line in “You’ve Got Mail” and “Sleepless in Seattle.” In fact, I think my whole family does just from the sheer number of times I made them watch those two movies. They will forever be in the top five of my “favorite rom-coms” list (joined by “Love Actually,” “The Holiday,” and “Notting Hill,” naturally). So I am so sad that Ms. Ephron has died, meaning we will no longer hear any more from her witty and wise voice. She told the truth and made it funny. But her movie scripts live on, and thank goodness, because they are some of the most quoted scripts in movie history. Here are some of our favorite quotes from the queen of romantic comedies!

I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.
~When Harry Met Sally

Destiny is something we've invented because we can't stand the fact that everything that happens is accidental.
~Sleepless In Seattle

Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms.
~You've Got Mail

You are the butter to my bread, you are the breath to my life.
~Julie & Julia

Harry Burns: No man can be friends with a woman that he finds attractive. He always wants to have sex with her.

Sally Albright: So, you're saying that a man can be friends with a woman he finds unattractive?

Harry Burns: No. You pretty much want to nail 'em too.
~When Harry Met Sally

All I'm saying is that somewhere out there is the man you are supposed to marry. And if you don't get him first, somebody else will, and you'll have to spend the rest of your life knowing that somebody else is married to your husband.
~When Harry Met Sally

Doctor Marcia Fieldstone: Tell me what was so special about your wife?

Sam Baldwin: Well, how long is your program? Well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together... and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home... only to no home I'd ever known... I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like... magic.
~Sleepless in Seattle

That's your problem! You don't want to be in love. You want to be in love in a movie.
~Sleepless in Seattle

So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn't it be the other way around?
~You’ve Got Mail

Well, I'm gonna get out of bed every morning... breathe in and out all day long. Then, after a while I won't have to remind myself to get out of bed every morning and breathe in and out... and, then after a while, I won't have to think about how I had it great and perfect for a while.
~Sleepless in Seattle

When you’re attracted to someone, it just means your subconscious is attracted to their subconscious. Subconsciously.
~Sleepless in Seattle

I’ll have what she’s having.
~When Harry Met Sally

And then the dreams break into a million tiny pieces. The dream dies. Which leaves you with a choice: you can settle for reality, or you can go off, like a fool, and dream another dream.

~Nora Ephron, Heartburn

Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.

~Nora Ephron

RIP Nora. Now who’s up for a movie marathon? I’ve got the popcorn…

What’s your favorite quote from one of Nora’s movies?
